Google Lets AdSense Publishers Donate Earnings to Haiti Relief
Share |

Google has launched an AdSense feature that lets AdSense publishers donate their earnings to Haiti earthquake relief efforts.

"We're currently accepting donations from AdSense publishers with an unpaid account balance through January 31, 2010," says Google's Elizabeth Ferdon. "To see what your unpaid account balance is, please visit the 'Payment History' page within your account. Your January earnings will post in the next few days, so feel free to refer to your 'Advanced Reports' page for an earnings estimate until those are finalized."

Publishers can donate either a portion or all of their unpaid balances as of the end of January. "As you may expect, there are certain restrictions to donating, and all our normal policies still apply -- so even if you're donating, please don't ask others to click on your ads in order to increase your earnings," says Ferdon.

Google will not process donation requests from publishers whose request to donate more than their unpaid balance through January 31, or if they are subject to tax-withholding, their account has been disabled for invalid activity or other violations of terms and conditions, or if their accounts displa/> [...]

Max Kalehoff on Social Media Advertising, Blogging & the Future of Paid Search
Share |

One of the most insightful voices in the online marketing industry when it comes to advertising is Max Kalehoff of Clickable. I was introduced to Max at a Search Insider Summit conference several years ago with very high regard by David Berkowitz, another intelligent voice in the industry, so I knew immediately he was someone to pay attention to.

Max’s company recently announced the addition of Facebook Advertising to their PPC management platform and he was very kind to take the time to answer several detailed questions about social media advertising on the Clickable platform, the future of the online advertising industry, slimy SEO middlemen, how he stays current and blogging about his Weber grill. :)

1. You have impressive credentials in the interactive marketing industry with your experience working at Jupiter, comScore and Nielsen. How did you come to work with Clickable?

It’s mostly luck. I’ve been fortunate to work with a series of successful startup teams and entrepreneurs that played a key role in shaping the Internet. I came to Clickable from Nielsen, which bought our last startup, BuzzMetrics, the pioneer in social media measurement and research. I admire Nielsen and have many close friends there, but I wanted t/> [...]

BlackBerry 6 Preview Features Social Feeds and New Browser
Share |

RIM has released a video preview of the company's forth coming BlackBerry 6 OS. The preview showcases a touch based interface, new social features likely powered by technology RIM acquired from Viigo and, of course, a new WebKit based browser. The video, and more information, is after the jump.

Here's some of what's new in BlackBerry 6:

  • A social network aggregator that's shown to work with Facebook, Twitter and BlackBerry Messenger. It's unclear if it will support other services. Integrating services such as Yammer and StatusNet would be useful for the enterprise. This is probably based on Viigo, which RIM acquired in March. Viigo, a real-time information aggregator, added support for Facebook last year.
  • An RSS reader, probably also based on Viigo.
  • A new home scree/> [...]

    Facebook Blocks Popular iLike App
    Share |

Now that iLike owned by rival MySpace, Facebook is restricting some features of the iLike app on it pages. The move is bound to be unpopular with the 12 million users that have made iLike the #1 music app on Facebook. Over the last few days Facebook users who had installed the iLike app received this message:

image from www.csgsnyu.org "Due to upcoming Facebook changes, your Music data on Facebook won’t show on your profile and you’ll stop getting concert alerts. Take this step to save your music data."

The restrictions stop users from adding music to the Facebook profile and receiving personalized concert alerts. iLike has responded by asking users for their email address to send concert alers directly.

Facebook's move against iLike is also a bi-product of what they called a wider

campaign of "New Ways to Find and Engage with Your Favorite Applications".  Obviously, new does not always mean better.
